This week in Grade 2, students are notating Do-Re-Mi melodies using a speech pattern about Tarzan.
First they had to use their critical listening skills to identify when there were words and when there was silence within a 16-beat chant. They identified that they heard 3 rests. Next, they arranged chips on a 3-line staff in various Do-Re-Mi patterns to create a melody for the rhythm of the chant.
As we continue this activity, students will finalize and notate their 16-beat melody. They will then learn to play their melody on the xylophone and sing along.
